Six new names will be added to Historic Westside Legacy Park this weekend as Las Vegas and Clark County honor the park’s 2026 class. The April 18 ceremony will recognize Reverend Mary L. Carroll, Greg McCurdy, Alma Faye Hudson-McDonnell, Bishop Bill Herbert McDonnell, Jr., Reverend Sam Roberson and Juanita Smith — community figures whose work helped shape the Historic Westside and broader Las Vegas area.

The induction ceremony is set for Saturday, April 18, at 8:30 a.m. at Historic Westside Legacy Park, 1600 Mount Mariah Drive in Las Vegas. The public is invited. The program will include the formal induction, music and speakers.
Who Is Being Honored
The 2026 class includes six people recognized for their work in faith, public service, education, law enforcement, civil rights, community organizing and housing:\n\n- Reverend Mary L. Carroll, pastor and church founder, known for her role in developing property and building Calvary Baptist Church in the Historic Westside.\n- Greg McCurdy, a 30-year Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department veteran who served as deputy chief and assistant sheriff and worked on recruitment diversity and police-community dialogue.\n- Alma Faye Hudson-McDonnell, a longtime community minister and Clark County School District professional who served students for 32 years.\n- Bishop Bill Herbert McDonnell, Jr., a church leader known as \u201CBishop Bill,\u201D longtime pastor and founder of the Shepherd\u2019s Breakfast community gathering.\n- Reverend Sam Roberson, a faith leader, broadcaster and civic organizer tied to St. James the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Power 88.1, the NAACP Las Vegas Branch and the Nevada Black Chamber of Commerce.\n- Juanita Smith, who became the first Black woman to work at the Basic Magnesium Plant in Henderson and later served in public housing and urban renewal work in Las Vegas.
Speakers and Hosts
City of Las Vegas Councilwoman Shondra Summers-Armstrong and Clark County Commission Vice Chairman William McCurdy II are scheduled to speak during the ceremony. The park itself is a joint effort between the City of Las Vegas and Clark County.

Historic Westside Legacy Park opened in December 2021 with 36 honorees. The park is designed as a tribute to Westside trailblazers, with a Historic Westside timeline, interpretive walking trail, public art, community stories, trees, landscaping and a playground.
