Get the diagnosis before you compare prices. Two practices can quote the same case very differently because they have planned it differently — one extracting teeth to make room, another expanding the arch, a third proposing surgery. Ask what the plan is and why, not just what it costs. If two orthodontists disagree about the approach, that is worth understanding rather than resolving by price.
Consultations are usually free, and a second one is normal. Orthodontic cases run for years and cost as much as a used car, so nobody will think less of you for seeing two practices. Bring the records from the first — the X-rays and photos belong to you — so the second is giving an opinion on the same evidence rather than starting over.
Ask who does the adjustments. In some practices the orthodontist sees you at every visit; in others routine wire changes are handled by an assistant with the orthodontist checking periodically — normal and legal, but worth knowing. If you are choosing between a Henderson practice and one further into the valley, this is the question that tells you what the shorter drive is actually buying.
Retainers are the part people underestimate. Teeth drift back for the rest of your life, fastest in the first year, and a completed case with no retention will partly undo itself. Ask what retainers are included, what replacements cost, and whether they recommend a bonded wire — then treat that as part of the price rather than an afterthought.
